Comprehensive Science & Arts for Teaching
The Comprehensive Science and Arts for Teaching (CSAT) major is designed for students seeking certification to teach in specialized areas at the elementary and/or middle school levels. It provides a solid foundation in all content areas taught at these levels.
The CSAT major is taken in combination with another major, such as Special Education (offered in the College of Education). Students choose either a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree. Students seeking the B.A. must demonstrate third-semester proficiency in a foreign language; those seeking the B.S. complete cognates including Statistics and a Research Methods course. In order to be certified, the student must:
- Complete this major with a GPA of 2.7 or better;
- Complete the complementary major with a GPA of 2.7 or better;
- Have an overall GPA of 2.7 or better; and
- Pass the Michigan Basic Skills Test and the MTTC Elementary and endorsement-area tests.
