Career Planning Model

The Career Planning Model is designed to help you discover the best career for your long and short term goals. Each step contains important tasks that will aid you in making that discovery.  Listed below are descriptions of what each step in the Career Planning Model entails.
Step 1 - Self Assessment
Self Assessment involves the process of learning more about your career strengths and weaknesses. Good decision making requires that we have an understanding of our interests, skills, traits and values.
Step 2 - Career Awareness
Career Awareness involves an exploration of the world of work. It provides opportunities to learn how individuals engage in work tasks and fulfill job responsibilities It is a research process that allows you to learn about educational and job entrance requirements, salary ranges, advancement opportunities and work values.
Step 3 - Reality Testing
Reality Testing is the opportunity to test yourself in the actual workplace. Visit authentic work settings to see what workers do during the day. Contact employers to conduct informational interviews or to ask about job shadowing. Sign up for an internship through your major advisor.
Step 4 - Decisions and Implementation
Career Decisions and Implementation provide you with the opportunity to focus on a college major and/or minor and plan for the future. Register with the Career Services office and take advantage of on-campus career events and employer interviews.
