GVSU's Education programs prepare teachers and leaders to transform lives. Our undergraduate programs offer a balance of the broad knowledge, thinking, and exploration found in the liberal arts combined with extensive opportunities to interact and engage with learners. As a GVSU student, you will learn and practice teaching through diverse field experiences in real classrooms. You will participate in multiple, meaningful field experiences for hands-on learning in the classroom. Your coursework is designed specifically for the grade levels you choose, allowing you to skillfull support students as learners and community members. You will learn highly effective, research-based teaching methods to help you meet the unique needs of your students.

Undergraduate Education Program Options

Choose a major that ignites your passion for teaching.

Birth to Kindergarten

This program will prepare you to teach Young Children (Birth to Kindergarten) in both general and special education settings.

Elementary Education

This program will prepare you to teach all subject areas in Lower Elementary (PK-3rd Grade) and/or Upper Elementary (3rd-6th Grade).

Secondary Education

This program will prepare you to teach in Middle School and High School in the subject areas you select.

PK-12 Education

This program will prepare you to teach Art Education, Health and Physical Education, Music Education, or a Modern Language in Preschool-12th grade.

Special Education

This program will prepare you to teach: 

  • All subjects, grades PK-3rd or grades 3rd-6th
  • Special education in grades K-12th
  • Special education programs for children and adults with disabilities up to age 26.
