How to Apply

Deadlines for application to Undergraduate Teacher Education Elementary and Secondary programs are:

  • September 15 for winter semester admission and field placement
    • Submission window opens five business days prior to deadline
  • February 1 for fall semester admission and field placement.
    • Submission window opens five business days prior to deadline

Applications are available as downloadable PDFs and are submitted in-person at the College of Education Student Information and Services Center on the downtown Pew campus, 401 C Richard M. DeVos Center. Packets must be completed at the time of admission. Students who postpone admissions must reapply. Students should apply during the semester before they expect to do their first field placement.

Please select the appropriate level application below. Save the .pdf form to your desktop and fill the form out ONLINE, typing in the required data - this .pdf is a writeable form. Print the entire completed application inserts/forms and turn all of the materials in during the application window outlined above.

  2. Complete the application
  3. Save your changes
  4. Print a copy, and sign it
  5. Deliver to the College of Education Student Information and Services Center on the downtown Pew campus, 401 C Richard M. DeVos Center.

Teacher Assisting:

  • Elementary Teacher Assisting
  • Secondary Teacher Assisting
    • Students seeking a major in music education must apply during the winter semester (February 1) for fall admission (i.e. fall Teacher Assisting).
    • Students seeking a major in World Languages must pass the Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) prior to their student teaching semester.
  • Special Education Teacher Assisting
    • Students seeking elementary certification with special education endorsements must apply during the winter semester (February 1) for fall admission.

COE Faculty Advisor Recommendation Form

This form will be provided by the COE advisor when students meet with them for their advising appointment. The form is not available online.

Major Advisor Recommendation Form - Secondary

At the time of application, the completed form is to be submitted with the application packet to the College of Education Student Information and Services Center.

Major Advisor Recommendation Form - Elementary and CSAT (Spanish)

At the time of application, the completed form is to be submitted with the application packet to the College of Education Student Information and Services Center.

Major Advisor Recommendation Form - CSAT (Special Education)

At the time of application, the completed form is to be submitted with the application packet to the College of Education Student Information and Services Center.

Application Inserts - General Programs

  • Verification of Service Form - Documents 25 hours of experience with children or youth
  • General education recommendation form - submit one from an individual who can address your abilities as a prospective teacher
