Climate Change Mitigation Planning Degree


B.Sc. in Geography: Climate Change Mitigation, Adaptation and Resiliency Planning

The GVSU Geography and Sustainable Planning Department is pleased to announce the new emphasis in Climate Change Mitigation, Adaptation and Resiliency Planning in geography BSc. degree.

Students graduating with emphasis in climate change mitigation, adaptation and resiliency planning will demonstrate mastery of principles of climate action planning, such as the greenhouse-gas emissions assessment and mitigation planning, climate impacts and vulnerability assessment, and community adaptation and resiliency planning. Geography majors graduating with this emphasis will demonstrate ability to integrate historical climate data and climate change scenario with information about city infrastructure, land-use, economic geography, and population demographics using geographic techniques and climate modeling. Attention is given to practical skills of climate preparedness planning, such as urban green and blue infrastructure, sustainable mobility, and community planning.
