Ted Meyer is a nationally recognized artist, curator and advocate
supporting patients, students and healthcare professionals on the
journey to physical and emotional healing through art. His16-year
project, “Scarred for Life: Monoprints of Human Scars”, chronicles the
trauma and courage of people who have lived through accidents and
healthcrises. Featured on NPR and in the New York Times, Washington
Post, Chicago Tribune, and USA Today, Meyer continues to share his
work internationally in museums, hospitals, and galleries. As
the current Artist in Residence at USC Keck School of Medicine, he
curates exhibitions of artwork by patients and artists challenged by
disease. Meyer is also a Visiting Scholar at the National Museum of
Health and Medicine and recently was invited to take part in the Aspen
Seminars at the Aspen Institute.
Drawing from his own experiences
as patient with lifelong Gaucher’s Disease, Meyer spent much of his
childhood in severe pain. His work is influenced by hospitalizations
where he began to mix art and medical supplies. His early paintings
reflect his belief that he would not live to see his 30th birthday. He
now considers himself normal and healthy;outliving friends, family and expectations.
