What to Do During a Fun-Filled Family Appreciation Weekend

Everyone gets homesick sometimes, and what better way to cure that homesickness than with a healthy dose of family and friends? Laker Family Appreciation Weekend from October 8-10 is the perfect way to have a fun weekend with the people you care about while also showing them all the great things that are happening around Grand Valley. 1. Popcorn & Movies: Godzilla vs. Kong
If your friends and family love a supersized, action-packed monster showdown (with a helping of popcorn on the side), then head to Kirkhof Theater Friday, October 8, at 7 p.m. for a showing of Godzilla vs Kong. Don’t forget to RSVP on LakerLink beforehand to ensure that you get the closest seats to all the action.
If your family are music fans, then Dueling Pianos is the event you won’t want to miss. Friday night from 7:30-10:30 p.m., Main St. Dueling Pianos will perform an array of different songs mixed in with laugh-out-loud comedy. Dueling Pianos’ set consists of requests, so you’ll be able to hear your favorite songs and enjoy them with your whole family! An annual tradition, the Family Weekend 5K, draws its participants from students all across campus and their families visiting for the weekend. Anyone can register to run a course around GVSU and witness the campus’ unique and beautiful scenery while also getting in a great workout. On October 9, start your Saturday morning right by meeting at the clock tower at 9 a.m. for this fun, fast race. Register for your division now!
4. Family Weekend Football Game Against Northwood
The centerpiece of Laker Family Appreciation Weekend, the football game against Northwood, is the ultimate bonding activity. Gather your family and friends together and rally the Lakers to victory on Saturday, October 9, from 7-10 p.m.! Buy your tickets, throw on your best and most spirited Laker gear, and head to Lubbers Stadium to cheer our team on.
