While sitting on the couch at home by yourself can be enticing, it is never as rewarding as getting up and joining a GVSU student organization. The best way to meet friends, boost your resume, and develop new skills is to log on to LakerLink and start the search for the org that’s right for you. Here is your guide to student orgs at GVSU and how to get started.

Why Should I Join a Student Organization?

Making friends is an important part of your college experience.

There are nearly 25,000 students at GVSU, and it can be overwhelming to find friends that you connect with when faced with such a large community. Joining a student org allows you to find people with similar interests and develop meaningful friendships much more quickly.

Enhancing your resume is easier when you join student orgs.

If you choose an organization related to your major such as Advertising Club, the Pre-Nursing Association, or another professional organization, you can network within your field of study, further develop your skills, boost your resume, gain experience, and impress future employers. Even if you join a group that has nothing to do with what you’re studying, you can add it to your resume to show people that you have collaboration skills, that you held a leadership position on the executive board, or that you’re passionate and well-rounded.

Pursuing your interests will lead you to success, like-minded friends, and a sense of fulfillment.

GV offers student-led cultural organizations such as the African Student Council, media organizations such as Grand Valley Television, performing arts groups such as Belly Dance Club, religious organizations, and so many more. There is also an extensive list of Greek Life opportunities, service organizations, and club sports. Any organization you choose to be involved in will help you connect with new people, grow your passions, and enhance your college experience overall.
