5 Things That Will Make You Go MADD for Make A Difference Day

Posted on October 13, 2017

Each fall the Community Service Learning Center (CSLC) hosts Make A Difference Day (MADD), partnering with 15+ different local nonprofit organizations, accommodating more than 300 students in the West Michigan community! Find out more info about this year's event on their MADD page.

Here are 5 things that’ll make you go MADD for MADD!

1. Get to know more about the West Michigan community!

Work with organizations that are passionate about the environment, providing affordable clothing at thrift stores, or creating community within urban neighborhoods. Depending on the opportunity, you might be able to explore local parks or neighborhoods. You’ll become educated about community issues by working with the different organizations and hearing their missions. As a result, you’ll learn how you can get more involved in the future!

2. Choose the people you want to serve with!

Sign up to serve with a group of friends, as a group from an organization you’re involved in, or serve as the independent individual you are and make some new friends. You and your peers will spend the afternoon serving alongside one another, strengthening old friendships and creating new ones. MADD is a great way to create relationships as you help create community in West Michigan!

3. Select your preferred sites for service!

Do you have a passion for service and want to help a thrift store sort clothes? Do you love being outside and doing yard work? Is there a nonprofit whose mission is something you’re passionate about? You can choose which organization you’d like to serve with and how you’d like to serve.

4. Need service hours?

During this day of service, you will be out in the community for most of the afternoon, therefore Make A Difference Day is the perfect way to get in 4+ hours of service. Don’t forget to enter your hours into Service Tracker!

5. MADD is a great service launch point!

If you’ve always wanted to get into the community and serve but never knew where to begin, MADD is the perfect way to get you started. You’ll get to know West Michigan a little bit more, you’ll make connections with local organizations, and maybe even discover that you have a passion for getting involved and giving back!
