Get Your Ph.D. - Become a McNair Scholar!
Would you like to become a researcher? Do you get excited about your particular field or area of study? Then the GVSU McNair Scholars Program may be for you! The program’s goal is to to increase the number of minoritized students in PhD programs and careers across the country. That is first generation students with significant financial need (Pell eligible), or members of racial and ethnic groups that the Department of Education defines as traditionally underrepresented in higher education.
The McNair Scholars Program is currently seeking undergraduate students who will be enrolled at GVSU through May 2020 or BEYOND. We are looking for students who have an intense curiosity and want to become experts and leaders in their field. You can do more than you think with a Ph.D. PLEASE NOTE: the McNair Scholars program is intended for students who want to become researchers and get their Ph.D. Professional school programs are not the same as Ph.D. programs and are NOT eligible for McNair. Professional school programs include medical school, law school, physical therapy studies, social work studies, etc.

The Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement program’s goal is to to increase the number of minoritized students in PhD programs and careers across the country. That is first generation students with significant financial need (Pell eligible), or members of racial and ethnic groups that the Department of Education defines as traditionally underrepresented in higher education. The program accepts students from all disciplines.
Scholars participate in a 15 month program which includes academic and career counseling, tutoring, GRE preparation, graduate school application preparation, academic writing preparation, and a $4,000 stipend and subsidized housing during an intensive summer research program. Scholars will also have access to funding for conference travel and graduate school visits.
McNair Scholars is a TRiO program funded through the United States Department of Education and Grand Valley State University.
