Move-in begins August 19, President Mantella to participate in her first Convocation

Students, faculty and staff members move items into a Grand Valley residence hall.
Hundreds of students, faculty, staff members and alumni will help more than 6,000 new and returning students move to campus August 19-21.

Hundreds of students, faculty, staff members and alumni will help more than 6,000 new and returning students move to campus August 19-21.

President Philomena V. Mantella will welcome students and their families as they move into residence halls across campus. Faculty and staff members will distribute ice cream throughout the week, including Board of Trustees members Sue Jandernoa and Beth Emmitt. 

Move-in week will conclude with Convocation on Friday, August 23, when Mantella, along with other speakers, will address first-year students. 

Convocation is a campuswide celebration that marks the beginning of the academic year; the ceremony will be held in the Fieldhouse Arena at 11:30 a.m.

Faculty, staff, administration, and members of the Board of Trustees will process into the Fieldhouse in full academic regalia. 

Other Convocation speakers include Provost Maria Cimitile, University Academic Senate Chair Felix Ngassa, Student Senate President Eric-John Szczepaniak and alumni speaker state Rep. Kyra Harris Bolden.
