Business Leaders for Michigan, an organization made up of senior executives from Michigan's largest companies and universities, has issued a report outlining leading best practices for K-12 education.

BLM said Michigan is facing an educational crisis with fewer than one in four students graduating from high school prepared for careers or college, and student achievement ranking among the nation's poorest.

President Thomas J. Haas, who chairedĀ Gov. Snyder's 21st Century Education Commission, supports the BLM recommendations, which include uniform accountability and performance standards, effective teacher preparation, making sure dollars are spent effectively, and more.

The organization created the report after studying best practices of states with high student performance.
