Symposium will focus on impact of play on health

Experts on how play positively impacts physical and mental health will gather for a half-day symposium at the Grand Rapids Downtown Market.

“Bring Play to Life: Examining the Health Benefits of Play” is presented by the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum and set for Wednesday, May 6, from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the market, 435 Ionia Ave. SW.

John Kilbourne, professor of movement science, helped organize the event and will serve as a panelist.

Keynote speaker is John Ratey, author of “Go Wild” and “Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain.” Ratey is an associate clinical professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.
