Women's rowing wins at Lubbers Regatta

Grand Valley women’s rowing took home the women’s points trophy at the annual Don Lubbers Cup Regatta April 12-13 in Spring Lake.

The men’s and women’s teams competed against students from 15 universities and high schools, including the University of Michigan, Purdue University and Colorado State University.

“It was the best Lubbers Cup Regatta by far,” said John Bancheri, head rowing coach. “The format was great, with everybody racing three times over a two-day period.”

Two new Grand Valley rowing boats were christened before the competition. The Arend D. Lubbers, named after Grand Valley’s president emeritus, will be used by the men’s varsity team, and the John C. Schintzel, named after a longtime program supporter, will be used by the women’s varsity team.
