LGBT Resource Center hosts campus book clubs

The LGBT Resource Center will host two book discussion groups for the campus community during the fall semester.

The groups are free and open to students, faculty and staff members, and will take place in the LGBT Resource Center, located in the Kirkhof Center.

The first group will meet at noon on Thursdays, starting September 5, to discuss Normal Life: Administrative Violence, Critical Trans Politics, and the Limits of Law by Dean Spade. In his book, Spade examines poverty, violence, criminalization and immigration enforcement facing trans populations.

Spade will visit Grand Valley to discuss his book November 14, at 6 p.m. in the Cook-DeWitt Center.

The second book discussion group will meet at 4 p.m. on Thursdays, starting September 5, to discuss The Erotic Life of Racism by Sharon Patricia Holland.

A free book will be given to the first 10 people who attend each book discussion group.
