Students donated more than 50 new toys during the Gifted Toy Drive at West Living Center A.

The toys will be donated to Community Rebuilders, a West Michigan organization that assists homeless families and individuals with housing and other resources. Students gathered December 6 to wrap the gifts.

Mario Adkins, resident assistant for West Living Center A, organized the toy drive to help a local non-profit and provide a community-building experience for student residents. Adkins said his experience as a board member for Grand Valley’s Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society chapter inspired him to organize the drive.

“I was astonished because students went out of their way to buy gifts for the drive,” Adkins said. “On the last day of the drive, the majority of those who donated came back to help wrap them.”
