University named national role model for diversity commitment

Grand Valley was named a national role model for its commitment to diversity by Minority Access, Inc., a nonprofit organization that partners with educational institutions and businesses to improve recruitment and retention of people of color.

Jeanne Arnold, vice president for Inclusion and Equity, accepted the award in early October in Washington, D.C. She said 17 universities were selected by Minority Access for their best practices in campus services and resources for students of color.

Central Michigan University was the only other state university to be named a national role model. Grand Valley’s recent climate study, Inclusion Implementation Plan and Intercultural Competency and Experience Certification were among the items cited by Minority Access as best practices.
