The TRiO Educational Talent Search at Grand Valley received a
federal grant to continue to serve area middle and high school students.
The five-year, $1.6 million grant was from the U.S. Department
of Education.
Sarah Keranen-Lopez, director of TRiO Educational Talent Search,
said the program serves 719 students who are in the sixth-12th grades
in the following schools: Union High, Ottawa Hills High, Grand Rapids
Montessori, Riverside Middle, Godwin Heights High, Wyoming Park High,
Central High, Creston High, Westwood Middle, Burton Middle, Wyoming
Rogers High and Wyoming Newhall Middle.
TRiO Educational Talent Search is a program that assists
low-income and first-generation students to persist to the next grade
level, graduate from high school, and enroll in the college of their
choice after high school graduation.
