ENG 612: Women Writers

Required Texts: Brontë, Jane Eyre; Byatt, Possession; Butler, Parable of the Sower; Morrison, Beloved; Wharton, The House of Mirth

Dr. Ashley Shannon

This course will center on five significant novels by women, which will be supplemented by shorter texts, both primary and secondary, that will contribute to our understanding of each novel’s zeitgeist—the world from which it emerged.  In studying these novels, we will examine how women’s writing has been situated historically on both sides of the Atlantic and across multiple historical periods.
