CLOSED: Job Opening- Affiliate Faculty Position

The Department of Biomedical Sciences at Grand Valley State University invites applicants for a new affiliate faculty position starting August 6, 2021. This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track renewable teaching position. We are seeking a faculty member to teach in one or more of the following areas: anatomy, physiology, nutrition, and microbiology. Affiliate faculty teach between 12 to 15 contact hours per semester, often as a mixture of laboratory and lecture courses. Prior teaching experience is preferred. The initial appointment is for one year beginning in the Fall of 2021, followed by the opportunity for a second year appointment in 2022. Thereafter, affiliate faculty are eligible for continuously renewable three-year contracts.

Required Qualifications and Education:

Qualified applicants will be committed to classroom teaching involving undergraduate students. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required for this position, such as the ability to interact with others with respect and empathy. The successful candidate must have obtained a minimum of a Master’s degree in a science or health-related field from an accredited institution.


Preferred Qualifications and Education:

Applicants with interests in teaching nutrition and/or human anatomy and physiology courses and associated labs, are highly encouraged to apply. Candidates should also have a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students under-represented in higher education, and/or experience using inclusive pedagogies.


Responsibilities:

Affiliate faculty duties include a 12-15 contact hour teaching load per semester. The area of greatest need is in the area of nutrition and/or human anatomy and physiology courses, although faculty may also teach in other areas of expertise. The option to teach in the summer months is usually available as well.

The Biomedical Sciences Department has approximately 1,000 undergraduate majors and 43 full-time faculty members. It also has an expanding Master’s degree program with both thesis and non-thesis students. We offer a variety of courses in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, nutrition and neurosciences that support our Biomedical Sciences majors, as well as courses that support other allied health majors, the university’s general education program, and select graduate programs.
