Prospective Freshmen

Information Sessions

This hour-long session includes an admissions presentation intended for incoming freshman with an admissions counselor and a Q&A session with current GVSU students. Available M-F, and Saturdays during the academic year. Pre-registration required.

Micro Sessions

We know you're busy, so we've created Micro Sessions to prioritize getting you the maximum amount of information in a minimal amount of time. These 30 minute (or less!) sessions are live-hosted by our Admissions Counselors and will focus on a specific topic, giving you a deep dive in a short timeframe.

Laker Experience Day

The Admissions Office will be hosting a Virtual Laker Experience Day this fall for high school seniors and their parents. This hour live Zoom webinar is intended to help students and their families discover why Grand Valley State University is the right fit for you.

Drop-in Office Hours

These virtual office hour sessions are designed to answer your questions  aboutthe application process, tuition, housing, and scholarships. Drop in at anytime during the one hour session to get your questions answered. Virtual Office Hours are held through Zoom.

Laker Experience Day Additional Sessions

Following your participation in one of our Laker Experience Days, we encourage you to review additional virtual visit specific to a variety of academic programs and student life opportunities. Sessions are scheduled throughout October and November.

Financial Aid Sessions

These sessions, hosted by the Office of Financial Aid, in conjunction with the Admissions Office, are designed for admitted students for Fall 2021 to provide clarification on the process of filing your FAFSA, applying for scholarships, and understanding your Financial Aid award. All events are live-hosted through Zoom and require advance registration. 

Laker Connections

These presentation highlights some of our Laker Connections programs, and is designed for students who identify with Black/African American and/or Latinx culture. These events will provide you with an opportunity to learn about student support, faculty/staff mentorship opportunities, and events from GVSU students and staff members. All events are live-hosted through Zoom and require advance registration. 

Student Support Resources

This presentation highlights Student Support Resources that our students can utilize on campus. These events will provide you with an opportunity to learn about student support from staff members and hear from current GVSU students about their involvement in these programs. All events are live-hosted through Zoom and require advance registration.

Sessions

This hour-long session, designed specifically for Transfer Students, focuses on the admissions process, course equivalency, and the Michigan Transfer Agreement. You will also have an opportunity to have any questions answered. Pre-registration required.

Join an Admissions Counselor in a live-hosted Virtual Admissions Presentation designed specifically for students from specific community colleges.

Self-Guided Campus Tour

Using a mobile device, our virtual tour guide will lead you through your on-campus visit using 360 degree images, videos, audio and text to highlight each stop on the tour.

GVSU COVID-19 Policy

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:
In order to comply with current COVID-19 guidelines, we ask that you follow campus COVID-19 protocols:

  • Face coverings that cover the mouth and nose are required in indoor and outdoor spaces when visiting Grand Valley State University
  • Social distancing guidelines MUST be followed.
  • Those unable to wear a face covering due to a medical condition are asked to participate in one of our many virtual visit options.
  • All campus visitors are required to complete a Health Self-Assessment prior to coming to campus. Please complete this assessment the day of your visit. When you complete the assessment, please take a screen shot of the final screen with the green check mark.
  • If you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 in the 14 days prior to your visit, or have any symptoms related to COVID-19, you will receive a red circle on your assessment and are asked to reschedule your visit for another date.
  • We ask that you keep your group size limited to follow CDC guidelines.

In-Person Visit

Join us for a small group presentation and a campus tour! These sessions will be socially distanced group-presentations, followed by a campus tour.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT OF GVSU:
Grand Valley State University’s full statement about the Coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and ongoing updates are available here. If you have questions about an upcoming visit after reviewing this information, please contact the Admissions Office at (616) 331-2025 or admissions@gvsu.edu.

The health and safety of our visitors and staff is our highest priority. The following measures are being taken at this time:

  • Every visit will have a reduced capacity in order comply with current recommendations and requirements. 
  • Presentation spaces have been modified in order to maintain 6 feet of distance between families.
  • GVSU staff will wear face masks/coverings and/or be located behind plexiglass barriers at all times.
  • GVSU staff will operate within social distancing guidelines at all times during your visit. These guidelines include maintaining 6 feet of distance between individuals.
  • All GVSU employees are required to complete an online self-health screen and temperature self-check every day before coming to campus. 
  • Areas of campus accessible to visitors are being cleaned frequently.
  • Use of restrooms will be limited based on size to ensure at least 6 feet of distance between individuals.
  • Social distancing and density measures (such as signage and staggered areas) will be in place, and areas will be blocked off to adhere to social distancing requirements.

WHAT VISITORS SHOULD KNOW:

Party size is limited to 3 visitors (you and 2 guests).

  • Face coverings that cover the mouth and nose are required in indoor and outdoor spaces when visiting Grand Valley State University.
    • If you do not have a face covering upon arrival, a disposable face covering will be provided.
    • Those unable to wear a face covering due to a medical condition are asked to participate in one of our many virtual visit options.
  • All guests will be required to complete a brief online Health Self-Assessment prior to participating in the campus presentation and tour.
    • Complete the online Health Assessment the day of your visit. Each member of your party will need to present a screenshot of the final submission indicating a green check mark.
    • If you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 in the 14 days prior to your visit, or have any symptoms related to COVID-19, you will receive a red circle and are asked to reschedule your visit for another date.
  • Social distancing guidelines MUST be followed

All in-person visits are by appointment only.

Cancellations may occur, and any openings in visit opportunities will be displayed at the link above when available. If the site says "There are no open campus visits that match your search", there is nothing available at this time.
