Description
The Department of Writing will be hosting a “Real Talk: The Truth About Employer Expectations” event on April 18th from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on GVSU’s Allendale campus. The event aims to provide students with “real talk” about what employers are looking for in new hires alongside job application tips and other professional insights. Students will spend time at different stations, each with a different focus such as résumés, networking, or interviewing. Food and drink will be provided.

Event schedule:
- 5:30 -5:45 p.m. - a brief introduction and background
- 5:50 p.m. - pizza delivered and professionals are assigned to a station
- 6 - 7:15 p.m. - students move from station to station
- 7:15 p.m. - share main takeaways with students
Each station will focus on a specific topic:
- Resumes/Cover Letters
- Interviewing/Networking
- Professionalism and Imposter Syndrome
- Digital portfolios and Work Samples
- How to maximize the rest of your college career
- First year on the job and developing as a young professional
