Target Inquiry (TI) is a 2½-year program designed to meet the professional development needs of high school chemistry teachers while responding to the National Science Education Standards’ (NSES) call for programs that focus on inquiry integrated with learning, pedagogy, and student knowledge. TI is for high school chemistry teachers who wish to earn a Master of Education in General Education with an Emphasis in Advanced Content Specialization-Chemistry or complete the certificate program consisting of 15 credits in graduate chemistry education course work.

TI builds upon the Master of Education program with a focus on inquiry and chemistry education. The concentration is designed to 1) provide teacher participants with an authentic chemistry laboratory research experience, and 2) facilitate the integration of their research experience into their classroom through the design, implementation, and evaluation of inquiry-based curriculum.

We are currently recruiting our next cohort of 10 teachers to begin TI in January 2010.  Teachers receive stipends of $5,000 to help defray tuition costs.  TI candidate interviews are being scheduled for July 2009.  Review the application procedures and contact Janet VanRhee at vanrheej@gvsu.edu ASAP.  Spots are limited.
