Job Search
Access the Job Board.
Click "Students Enter Here"
At Student log in page:
a. Current user - enter your Job Board user name and password.
If you have forgotten your password click on "Forgot Your Password?". You will be asked to provide your User Name. A randomly chosen password will then be emailed to the e-mail address in your profile.
b. New user - choose "Click here to register". Enter requested Personal Information and Demographic Information. Fields with asterick(*) are required. Click the [Register] button.
c. New work-study student user - you will have information already entered onto Job Board. Your User Name will be your student number and your password will be your 8 digit birth date (ex.01011980) or gvsu (all lower case)
You will get a congratulatory message. then click on [Submit Profile].
HOW TO SEARCH FOR JOBS
1. Highlight "Jobs" click on "Job Search"
2. To search GVSU jobs, choose a location in "Job Location". (Do not use any other criteria)
3. To search off campus jobs, you may want to use the keyword search option. This will allow you to enterwords to be used to search through all available jobs. Keyword will search the job title and job description fields in the job posting. Use the percent (%) sign before your key word for best results.
4. Click on either "Job ID" or "Job Title" to view job information. (You can sort the list of jobs by clicking on any column heading.)
5. Follow "Application Instructions" to apply for each individual job.
6. You can save the criteria of a specific search by clicking [Save Search]. These can easily be accessed from the Saved Searches section of your Home page. You also have the option when saving searches to have an e-mail sent to you when any new jobs matching the criteria are available. Click on Create Job Agent tab, enter Job Agent Name (ex. On Campus Jobs) then save. An email will be sent to your email address in your profile.
TIPS ON JOB SEARCH
1. Check Job Board frequently. New jobs are posted daily.
2. Be sure to follow the Application Instructions, even if you submitted an inquiry.
3. Follow up with a phone call to the employer if you have not received a response to your inquiry.
4. Attach a resume, if available, when sending an e-mail to an employer, even if not instruced in Application Instructions. Click here for helpful tips on how to construct a good resume.
