How to Create a Poster
Each academic discipline has its own standards and expectation of poster design.  When designing your poster, be sure to consult with your faculty mentor about the design and format.

The following key elements will help viewers follow the content of your poster:

• Use white space to separate poster sections or group related information.
• A large font title goes at the very top of the poster.
• Use figures and pictures to tell the story of the poster
• Minimize amount of text and use a large enough font for viewers to read your poster from 6 feet away - the text on your poster should ideally be 800 words or less.  Avoid blocks of text longer than 10 sentences.
• Organize material in a logical progression.
• Revise, revise, revise - work with your Faculty Mentor through several poster rough drafts before finalizing your poster.

Poster Printing Tips
These tips are for using the plotter in Henry Hall.  The cost of using the plotter is $25.00.  Please contact the CTS Help Desk for more information.  These tips were provided by Dr. Brad Wallar.

At the poster printer computer, login with the activated credentials (normal ID/password)

Test the poster printer compatibility by first choosing the option B (C4650) printer and scaling the poster to one page.  You should see if there are any abnormalities to fix.  If not, proceed to step 6.

Print the poster on option C (DJ1055) and select Properties.  The Orientation should remain in Portrait.  In the Application page size, click on More Sizes.  On the right, input Width 36 and Height 48. Then under Paper Source – select Roll, and under Roll Size, select 36 inch roll.  No need to scale or to scale to fit paper.  It should be ready to roll.
