FREE Conference Opportunity- Issues Day @ CMU

Notice to all Service and Advocacy Organizations:

The S & A Council has 6 openings slated for GVSU students from Service and Advocacy Organizations to attend CMU’s Issue Day Conference held on Saturday, November 21, 2009 on CMU’s campus from 9am-4pm. This is a FREE opportunity (transportation and registration including lunch are provided). This conference opportunity is being coordinated by the S & A Council and is funded by the conference funds available from Student Senate.
 
About the Issues Day Conference: Issue Day serves as an interactive, educational opportunity for students across the state of Michigan who advocate for social justice issues. Issue Day is a one-day conference providing education, information and orientation on issues challenging society today. Issue Day serves as a resource for individual advocacy and encourages volunteerism by way of speakers and activities. Presentations will range on topics such as issues such as homelessness, poverty, HIV/AIDS, and/or other issues that affect society. Please note that a 1 hour service project is scheduled during the conference.  For more information about the conference, visit http://volunteer.cmich.edu/.
 
Interested students should email jonesval@gvsu.edu by 12 noon on Friday November 6th with the following:
  • Name
  • Organization (S&A) & Position
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Do you need special accommodations (accessibility, vegetarian, vegan, etc?) 
  • Statement (one paragraph) on why you would like to attend and how you will use this information in your organization/ on campus/ in the local community.
  • Please confirm that you are available to depart from GVSU’s Allendale campus at 7:00 am on Saturday November 21 and available until 6pm (time approximately returning to campus).
  • Include your availability from 12-5pm on Friday November 13 for a brief pre-conference meeting.
  • Additionally, we are in need of one student who is willing to drive their personal vehicle to Mount Pleasant. We will reimburse for the cost of gas. If you are willing to drive, please indicate so.
