Professional Readiness Competencies

Step up and Stand out! This competency provides opportunities for advancing your hard and soft skills. You will gain knowledge that will enhance your personal brand and employability throughout the career exploration and decision-making process and beyond! Career fair prep events, “Careers In” events, internships, mock interviews…the opportunities are endless.

Developing critical thinking skills is essential in various aspects of life, including education, work, and decision-making. Exploring this competency will provide individuals with the skills to make informed choices, solve problems, and navigate complex situations. It is a skill that can be cultivated through practice, exposure to diverse perspectives, and a willingness to challenge one's own assumptions.

Communication and professionalism are essential competencies in the business world. It is critical to have a clear and articulate exchange of ideas, information, and feedback, both verbally and in writing. It also encompasses active listening, empathy, and the ability to convey complex concepts in a manner accessible to diverse audiences. Professionalism entails a commitment to ethical behavior, reliability, and maintaining a respectful and collaborative demeanor in the workplace. Professionals with strong communication and professionalism competencies not only convey information effectively but also contribute to a positive and cohesive work environment, fostering trust and successful collaboration.

This category of competencies involves fostering learning that will lead to building a workforce that will foster a culture that values and embraces diversity in all its forms. Equity ensures fairness and impartiality in professional opportunities, while inclusion promotes a sense of belonging for all individuals. Social justice extends this commitment to addressing systemic inequalities, promoting fairness, and advocating for positive change.

Understanding the world is a key component when preparing for a career in business. Within this competency students will learn to appreciate the increased interconnectedness and interdependence among economies, industries, and cultures worldwide.

This competency has many dimensions. You will have the opportunity to develop your leadership skills through theory and practice. Join a student organization and work your way up to the E-board! The opportunities in this competency will help you to identify leadership opportunities, help you establish comfort in networking and enhance your teamwork skills.

The competency of Sustainability and Societal Impact involves an understanding and commitment to responsible business practices that consider environmental, social, and economic factors. Students will learn through this competency the considerations for resource efficiency, corporate social responsibility, and ethical decision-making.

How Do I Earn Points?

You can earn points by attending an event or completing a task. The amount of points you can earn per event or task varies. The higher the level and number of competencies, the more it is worth.

Types of Activities

Tasks

Tasks range from simple things such as watching a TED Talks or meeting with Career Center,  to more complex tasks, including joining a Seidman student organization.

Events

Activities include attending events sponsored by Seidman Student Organizations, Seidman departments, and GVSU campus events.

Publicize your student org event in the Admiral platform

Seidman Student Organization Executive Board members may submit events in Admiral to be shared with the Seidman community and students. Add your event so you can track attendance and earn points towards Student Org badges, professional competencies, and prizes!  Submit your flier for distribution in Admiral and we will email students, add it to the Seidman calendar and post on plasma screens in the building!

•    Flier slides must be in a Landscape/ Horizontal  Format (1920 x 1080) to be posted to
      plasma screens.
•    Please plan ahead! If you want an event announcement sent out we need it at least
      three days prior to the event.

Prizes

Prizes are earned by students who make it to the top of the leaderboard on the ADMIRAL application. You can keep track of where you are in the running through the mobile app or desktop version of the platform.

End of Semester Prizes

The top point earners for the semester will be invited to a luncheon with the SCB Associate Dean and the Director of Mentorship as well as some awesome Seidman swag!!!

 


How to use the ADMIRAL platform?

  1. Go to the app store. Search for “Suitable” download the app. Sign-in with your GVSU email address, which will bring you to the CAS log-in screen. Then sign-in with your NETID.
  2. Enable Push Notifications and access to the camera. You need to allow the camera access so that you can scan the QR code at events and earn points. Finish setting up your account.
  3. To upload a profile photo, click the gear icon in the top right corner and click on “Scorecard.”
  4. Earn your first 10 points by finding the task "Create Suitable Profile & Download the App". Swipe right and press "Complete and claim your points”

Congratulations you’ve now earned your first 10 points!
