Abstract: Ancient Native Americans were keenly aware of and relied on the movements of celestial bodies as organizing principles in their daily lives and cultures. Focusing on several examples from North America, this presentation describes archaeological evidence of how ancient cultures engaged the heavens in community planning, ceremony, art and subsistence practices.
