Kristofer Pachla, M.Ed.: “From NSF to Nobel Prize.  LIGO: The Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory"

The work done with the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) won the 2017 Nobel Prize in Physics.  What is the LIGO, what is it measuring and how does it work? What does this research have to do with Einstein’s General Theory of Relativity? And what was the path taken by the researchers and the apparatus from a National Science Foundation funded project to winning a Nobel Prize?  This session will provide answers to these questions, and more, while exploring this highly timely and relevant topic.
