Mark Moes earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame and an M.A. at the Aquinas Institute. He also holds a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame.

His main interests are ancient Greek philosophy (especially Plato), philosophy of history, and philosophy of religion. He is the author of Plato's Dialogue Form and the Care of the Soul (Peter Lang Publishing, 2000). Some of his other publications are: "Simone Weil and the Natural Symbolism of Gender" (in Robert N. Fisher, ed., Becoming Persons: Proceedings of the Second Conference on Persons, Applied Theology Press, 1994), "The Ethics of Reading" (Grand Valley Review, 1994), "Mimetic Irony and Plato's Defense of Poetry in the Republic" (Journal for Neoplatonic Studies, 1996), and "Plato's Conception of the Relation Between Moral Philosophy and Medicine" (Perspectives in Biology and Medicine, 2001).

Currently, Professor Moes is working on papers concerned with Plato's Phaedrus, Republic, and Symposium. He teaches a course called "Philosophy and Mythology" and in conjunction with that course is exploring the literature on J.R.R. Tolkien's Silmarillion and Lord of the Rings.
