Maria Cimitile earned her Ph.D. in Philosophy at the University of Memphis with a dissertation on The Truth in Mimesis: Phenomenological Transformation in Gadamer, Heidegger, and Irigaray. She also holds a Master's degree from Villanova University and a B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross.

Her main interests are 20th century European philosophy, feminist philosophy, and ancient philosophy. Some of her publications are: "The Horror of Language: Irigaray and Heidegger" (Philosophy Today, 2003), "Antigone and the Hermeneutic Enterprise of Politics" (Hypatia, 2003), and "The Political Space of the Gendered Imaginary" (forthcoming). Currently, she is finishing an edited volume, Returning to Irigaray (SUNY Press, forthcoming).

Professor Cimitile is one of the co-founders of the West Michigan Women Studies Council.
