Diversity Brown Bag Series
The Native American Mascot: Tribute or Stereotype?

LIB 100 & 201 Approved!

The use of Native American names and images in sports has been a topic of controversy for many years. Some people feel the use of Native names to be offensive and a damaging form of stereotyping, while others support the use and consider it as a way to pay tribute and respect.

Belinda Bardwell, former Tribal Council leader at Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians and current member of Grand Valley’s Native American Advisory Board, will host a discussion on this topic.
