The most helpful aspects of my undergraduate education in mathematics were: Understanding the logic of math has been very helpful to seamlessly use and calculate statistics, and knowing programming languages such as Python has also been useful. In terms of actual mathematics, I have found that regression analysis has been the most useful that I’ve used.

The advice I’d offer to current undergraduate students in mathematics: Apply to as many jobs as you are able to, and continue looking for opportunities even after you get a job. Learn Excel, R, and as many software apps as you can.

In a typical day in my work, I:  engage in data analysis, data collection, economic research, and writing on the state of nutrition insecurity in San Diego County.
