Admission

Students are admitted to the undergraduate nursing program in one of three ways. These are freshmen nursing majors, freshman prenursing majors, and transfer students. Students are assigned to a faculty member in nursing who will serve as their academic advisor for the remainder of their program. Students who have not declared their major may do so at the College of Nursing Office.

In order to enroll in NUR 315, which is the first course of the clinical sequence for nursing, students must submit a verification of coursework at the College of Nursing office at 300 CHS. Students meet the following criteria:

  • GPA of 2.8 or above
  • Completion of prerequisite and decision courses with grade of C (2.0) or above
  • The College of Nursing course repeat policy is as follows: no more than one repeat per required course. No more than one nursing course can be repeated.

The following items are required before the student begins Nursing 315.

  1. Health and immunization reports
  2. Annual certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  3. Health insurance
  4. Transportation to clinical sites

Students should be aware that the State Board of Nursing reviews the records of all graduates who have completed a nursing program to determine eligibility to write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).

The State Board of Nursing retains the right to deny a graduate permission to write the licensure examination if he or she has been convicted of a crime. Some clinical facilities may require a criminal background check prior to allowing a student to practice at the site.
