Job Summary

This position provides clerical and administrative support for the Department of Movement Science.

Essential Functions

  • Perform receptionist duties such as greeting visitors, answering phone calls, and taking messages.
  • Proofread and correct materials; edit grammatical errors.
  • Use appropriate computer software and GVSU resources to collect data and prepare a variety of materials such as reports, memorandums, correspondence, forms, and tests using computer system.
  • Maintains filing and/or database and record-keeping systems on paper and/or computer.
  • Respond to inquiries from students, faculty, staff, and community members about established policies and procedures, or refer such inquiries to the appropriate faculty/staff member.
  • Process e-mails sent to the Department of Movement Science e-mail address.
  • Inventory and management of department computers, equipment, textbooks and office supplies.
  • Assist in coordination of various events and activities such as:
    • Program Expos
    • Laker Experience Days
    • Potential student/family campus visits
  • Assist students with requests and processes such as:
    • Class override requests
    • Late adds/drops
    • Grade changes
  • Assist the unit head, faculty and staff with the following:
    • Processing mail and incoming/outgoing shipments
    • Printing and copying
    • Scheduling appointments, meetings and events
    • Tracking grade entering, changes and incomplete grades
    • Processing and tracking advisor assignment requests
    • Tracking degree audit requests
    • Processing and tracking course equivalencies
    • Processing and tracking prerequisite reports
    • Preparing and tracking online student evaluations
    • MOV Department website updates
    • Inventory and management of department computers, equipment, textbooks and office supplies
    • Other duties as assigned by the unit head

Non-Essential Functions

  • Makes and confirms travel arrangements for respective faculty searches.
  • Assist with training and supervision of student workers.

Required Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years relevant work experience.
  • Experience with various computer software applications such as Microsoft Office and/or equivalent.
  • Ability to operate office equipment.
  • Data entry experience.
  • Typing and spelling competency.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to provide quality customer service.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain satisfactory work performance and attendance records.
  • Ability to successfully maintain positive intercultural and interpersonal relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience with Banner Software.
  • Some college coursework.

Supervision Received

Receives supervision and work assignments from a designated supervisor, although other staff members in the unit may provide work direction.

Supervision Exercised

May be responsible for the coordination of work assignments for student employees.

Physical Demands
