Internship with the Sierra Club Michigan Chapter

Ariel
Major: International Relations Interns are stationed on local campaigns across the state. Responsibilities to the Sierra Club include exemplary representation of the organization and close communication with the internship supervisor. Interns will communicate with their supervisor at a minimum of once a week. As far as expectations from the local campaign, there may be several. Interns are expected to do whatever is needed of them to promote their candidate and maximize the chance of their candidate being elected. This could include canvassing at various levels, including making phone calls and knocking on doors, as well as general office work, volunteer recruitment and management, promotional event planning, and various other responsibilities.

My experience with Senator Stabenow

My experience with Senator Stabenow

Jenelle
Major: International Relations I completed various tasks and projects. I recruited and managed volunteers for canvasses, press releases, rallies, and events. I recruited volunteers by calling individuals and past volunteers. I also phone banked and called voters to seek their support for Debbie. Moreover, I attended events with Senator Stabenow. Additionally, I translated for the Senator when she came to the Hispanic Festival and when she did press releases to the Spanish news media in Grand Rapids. I also helped my campaign manager cut turf for the volunteers that canvassed. Furthermore, I also helped collect and record campaign funds at events with the Senator. Also, I assisted other candidates such as Winnie Brinks with their campaigns. Finally, I served as a poll greeter on election day and helped translate for voters that were not fluent in English.

Jonathan
Major: Engineering - Mechanical I was a Concept and Cost Development Intern for the summer in which I worked with several engineers of various knowledge bases to design concepts with CAD and cost the concept accordingly. The job not only entails critical thought and thinking outside the box in literally every situation but also developed my thought for legal business practice. Writing a quotation is extremely difficult and demands covering all of ones bases so that when something comes up down the road, the company isn't out thousands of dollars. Not only was I required to write these quotes, but also act as a salesman of the product I was designing a concept for as well. No one will buy what you are designing, if you can't stand behind it and back up what you were thinking. On several occasions I held and led meetings with department heads, business unit managers, VP of sales, and even the CEO at one point.
