Experience Information
Employer: Winneba Health Center (Ghana, Africa) Description of the OrganizationWinneba Health Center (Ghana Health Service) is a governmental healthcare facility located in Ghana, Africa. Description of the Tasks/Projects CompletedAt Winneba Health Center I mainly learned about the different diseases and conditions that are common in the area. I also learned how to treat these diseases/conditions. By the end of my stay in Winneba, I was able to give vaccinations, perform rapid malaria tests, give pregnancy test, weigh babies, and consult/diagnose patients. Skills/Knowledge Gained Through The ExperienceI knew briefly about the diseases/conditions that were prevalent in Ghana, but this experience made me more knowledgeable on the topic. Seeing that I worked so close to the natives, I also was able to learn more about the culture and the challenges they faced. Favorite Part of the ExperienceMy favorite part of this experience was being able to go around to the different departments, such as nutrition, environmental, and disease control, in order to get an overall idea of Ghana Health Service and what they do. This way I wasn't doing the same thing everyday and I got the chance to interact with individuals I might not have seen. How the Experience Influenced Future Career GoalsThis experience made me realize that I really want to become a nurse and that I should not let anyone or anything get in the way. Now that I am back in the States I am working towards reaching my goal.
