TERP10 Importance From A Student's Perspective

If there were one thing that I would recommend every MIS major should do, it would be to participate in the SAP TERP10 Certification Academy. As a former ERP Initiative intern it was strongly recommended by Dr. Magal that I participate in the SAP TERP10 Certification Academy. I graduated in 2011 and I decided not to participate in the SAP TERP10 Certification Academy, which I later came to regret. The benefits of the TERP10 certification became very evident when a position that I interviewed for was offered to a candidate who was TERP10 certified. In 2013, I returned to Grand Valley to complete the MIS major and to participate in the SAP TERP10 Certification Academy.

Becoming TERP10 Certified is without a doubt one of, if not the biggest factor, in securing a job after graduating. The sense of accomplishment you have when you complete the academy is unrivaled by anything else you will experience in the classroom and opens many doors for you in the future. - Steven Merritt

TERP10 Preparation From A Student's Perspective

Hello my name is Megan Laughlin and I’m here to tell you about the most rewarding experience I’ve had here at GVSU. The SAP TERP10 Certification was the most intense/rewarding academic challenge that I’ve ever faced. After finishing MGT 351 Professor Magal told me that I needed to read Integrated Business Processes with ERP Systems cover to cover in order to prepare for the intense two week course. The SAP TERP10 manual has fourteen chapters and the first nine chapters in the manual are found in the book I previously mentioned.  I wish I would have studied much more and had created summaries/cheat sheets for each of the chapters. I recommend that you make a study schedule for the summer and cover a chapter a week.

One of the best tips I can give a student that is planning to participate in SAP TERP10 Certification is to create an empty binder and divide it into fourteen sections so that you can keep organized during these two weeks. It’s important to stay organized during this certification because you need all the time you can devote to studying not rummaging through papers trying to find your summaries or quizzes. After completing each chapter during class time you will be given a quiz. The best studying technique for this certification is to find a group and discuss each question from the quizzes while trying to understand the main topic of each question. You cannot go through this certification alone making study groups is key.

While going through this certification you will feel overwhelmed by the amount of material you’re given. It’s important to keep calm and devote all of your time to studying during these those two weeks. Each lunch break there will be companies that will buy you lunch as well as inform you about the opportunities offered at their company. As I said at the beginning of this summary of my experience I said that this was the most rewarding experience I’ve had here at GVSU.  Taking this certification will open many doors for you and you’ll be able to secure a job for when graduation rolls around. I hope my experience will help you on your path to taking SAP TERP10. If you have any more questions about this certification your more than welcome to contact me. ~ Megan Laughlin

TERP10 Experience From A Student's Perspective

The first day walking into the classroom to begin the academy was very intimidating.  When I got the 1000 page manual, I felt beyond over whelmed, but everyone else was feeling the same.  The way the information was taught though, was designed to make you pass by focusing only on what was relevant to the exam.  For me, this made it a lot better just because I knew I wasn’t wasting any time or motivation on listening to lectures, or studying the material.  The best part was the free lunches and all the presentations companies would give us.  I could tell just by the way they talked about their company, and why they wanted/needed students with TERP10, that I wasn’t wasting my time there. It was the most rewarding experience I’ve had at Grand Valley, and has helped me be successful in both my academic career, along with securing a job after I graduate.
