Formed in 2003, the Dialogues on Liberal Education serve to support and enhance the University's commitment to education in the liberal tradition. These dialogues provide a venue for student, faculty, staff, and alumni to discuss the values of liberal education. The Dialogues are available in two forms. The first is the Topical Dialogues on Liberal Education, formerly known as Intergroup Dialogues. This set of dialogues is open to the GVSU community and engages participants in discussion about a specific topic. This year we will be talking about creating an "inclusive community of engaged learners". Topical Dialogues occur in the Fall Semester of each year. The second set of dialogues, Foundational Dialogues, is available by invitation to faculty and students. It serves as a dialogue on liberal education which introduces scholars to core concepts surrounding liberal learning through classical and contemporary readings. Foundational Dialogues occur in the winter semester. Sign up to join one of the Topical Dialogues on Liberal Education for Fall Semester 2006. The topic for this set of dialogues will be "An Inclusive Community of Engaged Learners." Topical Dialogues on Liberal Education are structured, small-group discussions between diverse groups of people. In our case, they will be combinations of faculty, students, alumni, and staff. Groups will meet three times during November and December, for two hours each time. If you are interested in participating, click here to complete your registration by Wednesday, October 18th.
