Goal One
To provide high quality student-focused undergraduate, graduate, and professional education provided by faculty dedicated to excellent teaching, scholarship, research, and professional service

Strategy
To differentiate learning goals for curricular and co-curricular undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs by identifying appropriate learning outcomes that are grounded in liberal education

To create and implement an assessment plan designed to improve student learning

  • To develop an assessment plan that will provide evidence of student learning at multiple levels: course, program, and institutional
  • To use assessment results for informing improvements in curriculum, pedagogy, instructional resources, and student services
  • To routinely review the effectiveness and uses of the assessment plan
  • To integrate into assessment of student learning data reported for purposes of external accountability (graduation rates, passage rates on licensing exams, placement rates).

To review academic programs with attention to currency and relevance of courses and programs

  • To highlight student, faculty, staff, and alumni success stories to illustrate the key university marketing messages in engaging and active ways
  • To create a central on-line resource to assemble the scholarship and creative activities of faculty, staff, and students
  • To develop and distribute marketing materials to ensure consistency of messages both internally as well as externally in a manner that demonstrates the energy of the university’s varied efforts
  • To create a presence at the national and international levels by showcasing the university’s centers of excellence and by assisting faculty, staff, and students to present at national and international conferences.
  • To provide opportunities for groups to experience Grand Valley via such things as  conferences, faculty and student exchanges, and special events

Vision
Guided by the ideals of liberal education, the College of Interdisciplinary Studies exemplifies the university mission by serving as the nexus for transformative teaching, engaged learning, and exemplary scholarship for GVSU and the larger community

Through an innovative culture and inclusive conversation, the College of Interdisciplinary Studies:

  • Facilitates and fosters collaborative, interdisciplinary teaching and learning.
  •  Models inclusion and change for the university, by connecting with local, national and global communities (match to GVSU goal 3).
  • Creates, promotes, and supports experiential and intercultural learning opportunities.
  • Encourages and sustains a nurturing and creative environment by supporting and including the diverse voices of the College and the greater university community.
  • Encourages collaborative, interdisciplinary projects and programs across College boundaries.
  • Adds value to programs university-wide through integrative activities and programs.

Guiding Principles

We value:

  • A collegial and collaborative environment where we support each other and work together in an open and transparent manner.
