Club Information & Plans

Cross Country and Track team

About Us: GVSU Cross Country & Track Club provides an opportunity for leisure and competitive runners alike to come together and run. This club is perfect for athletes looking to continue a running career post-high school or for those simply looking for others to run with. Our club practices at the Kelly Fieldhouse Monday - Thursday from 6 pm to 8 pm. We offer workout and training plans to those that are interested. Training groups are determined by interest in mileage and competition. Our club is eagerly looking to expand our field event crew. We are prepared to purchase the necessary equipment required for field event athletes to compete. Outside of practice, our club hosts a variety of social and volunteer events for those that are interested. Volunteering events allow our organization to give back to the surrounding community while social events foster a positive team environment.

Club Highlights:

  • Group runs: Sprinters, distance runners, and field event athletes meet at the Kelly Family Sports Center at 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
  • Meets: Competitions are paid for by athletes on an attendance basis. You are only required to pay for the meets you attend. We attend cross country meets in the fall, and participate in indoor and outdoor track. We do travel in and out of state!
  • Volunteering: We offer various volunteering events throughout the year. Club members have the opportunity to earn a stipend to put toward one race per semester. This stipend can only be earned once a semester through participation at a fundraising event, but does help personal costs.
  • Social Events: We have an abundance of social gatherings that promote the community aspect of our club.

FAQs

How do I join the Cross Country and Track club?

To join, please fill out the club sports waiver form found here and request to join on Lakerlink.  Once you have joined lakerlink you will be added to the club's email list.

Do I need to be at every practice in order to be a part of this club?

No. Although we encourage all of our members to attend practices as much as possible, we understand that educational or work-related events may interfere with your attendance. There are no penalties for missing practices.

Do I have to participate in competitions/races?

No. While we do attend various meets throughout the year club members are not required to compete in order to be a member. For those that are interested in racing, we do offer training plans and weekly workouts to help you accomplish personal goals. If racing and workouts are not for you, no worries!

Are there dues to be a member of the club?

Yes. There are dues which are currently $90 for the academic year or $65 for one semester. This comes with a club T-shirt, race singlet, and entry to any track meets hosted by GVSU, as well as access to a network of runners and a series of social events. If you do not wish to compete and don't want the singlet or are a returning member who already has a singlet, dues are reduced by $15
