Darlene serves as the Director of Student Services for the College of Health Professions. She received her bachelor’s degree from Calvin College in Sociology and Recreation, obtained her Therapeutic Recreation (TR) certification, and went on to get her master’s degree in Adult and Higher Education from Grand Valley State University (GVSU). Her career started in Toronto, ON where she worked as a YMCA program coordinator. She went on to get her TR certification while working outpatient pediatrics at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Center. Her career path led her to 10 years of International Student Admissions at her Alma mater, Calvin College. In 2006, she started working in her current position within the College of Health Professions at GVSU. She declares that her claim to fame is bicycling 1900 miles across the USA. She continues to enjoy bicycling, travel to her relatives in the Netherlands, and trips back to her family in Canada.
Michelle has served as an academic advisor in the College of Health Professions Student Services Office since 2008. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services and graduated from GVSU in 2008 with a Master’s Degree in College Student Affairs Leadership. Her higher education career started at Kellogg Community College back in 2002. Favorite things to do include: gardening, camping and a newly acquired skill of fishing.
Brianne has served as an academic advisor in the College of Health Professions Student Services Office since 2011. She graduated from GVSU in 2008 with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and in 2011 with a Master’s Degree in College Student Affairs Leadership. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
Mike serves as an academic advisor in the College of Health Professions Student Services Office. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies and Master’s Degree in College Student Affairs Leadership from GVSU. After earning his Master’s Degree, he worked as an academic advisor at Illinois State University. He worked specifically with incoming freshman and undecided students. Upon returning to West Michigan, he fills most of his time watching sports related programs, being outdoors, and spending time with family.
Jennie began as an Academic Advisor within the College of Health Professions in December 2016. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health Professions with a minor in Aging & Adult Life from Grand Valley State University in 2012. While a student at GVSU, Jennie worked as a Student Assistant within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Academic Advising Center, where she formed a passion for higher education and academic advising. After graduating, she earned a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Central Michigan University in 2012. Prior to returning to GVSU, Jennie worked as an Admissions Counselor at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. In her free time, she enjoys reading, practicing yoga, and spending time outdoors with her family. A West side native, she is excited to be back on campus, and proud to be a Laker for a Lifetime!
Valinda is the professional support staff for the College of Health Professions Student Services Office. She also serves as the admissions coordinator for the College of Health Professions. Many people know Valinda as an Apple products aficionado. In her free time, she spends time with her son and daughter, members of her congregation and her family.
Janice is one of the professional support staff for the College of Health Professions Student Services Office. She earned a Master of Education degree in Higher Education with an Adult and Higher Education concentration in Winter 2016. In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors, traveling, and spending time with her young family.
Kirstie works as a Graduate Assistant in the College of Health Professions Student Services office. She recently received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Clinical Exercise Science from GVSU. Kirstie is in her first year of pursuing a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree at GVSU. She hopes to work as a traveling physical therapist after graduation, and then pursue a career in sports physical therapy working with athletes. In her free time she enjoys being outdoors, going to sporting events, and spending time with friends and family.
Karyn works as a Graduate Receptionist in the College of Health Professions Student Services Office. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Allied Health Sciences with minors in Psychology and Sociology from GVSU. She is currently in the Grand Valley Occupational Therapy Master’s Program. Karyn is the Captain of the GVSU Women’s Ice Hockey team and enjoys spending her free time being active outdoors and with family & friends.
