The Heart of West Michigan United Way's Schools of Hope tackles the problem of illiteracy with In School Tutoring, After School Literacy Programs and Family Literacy classes. Their goal is to ensure that all Kent County students are reading at grade level by the end of third grade. Nationally recognized, Schools of Hope was selected by United Way Worldwide to be part of its prestigious Performance Excellence Group based on its track record of success. The charge as a leader within the Performance Excellence Group is to share their strategies with other communities nationwide to make an impact on the problems of illiteracy. The College of Community and Public Service Dean, Dr. George Grant, Jr., participated in the Schools of Hope reading program by reading to a group of Grand Rapids Public Schools students from the first through third grades. CCPS faculty, staff, and students had a wonderful time taking a small break to visit with the CCPS Dean's in celebration of their birthdays. We wanted to show them how special they are so we took this opportunity to thank them for all they do for each of us!
CCPS Masters of Public Administration Student is The Project Management (PMI) Contest Winner! (1 Photos)
All student teams participating in The Project Management Institute (PMI) Western Michigan Chapter Collegiate Competition presented their project plans to a panel of executive judges for a chance to win a grand prize of $5,000. Teams from Aquinas College, Davenport University, Grand Valley State University, Kalamazoo College, Michigan Tech, and University of Phoenix took 10 minutes to explain their plans for how a company can become B Corp Certified. The plans were to include, scope and approach, timeline, roles and responsibility, communication plan, and executive scorecard for their project. Presentations were held at The DeVos Place and our GVSU College of Community and Public Service (CCPS) Masters of Public Administration (MPA) student, Iwona Gurszka, won! Iwona is a native of Poland and is currently a Graduate Assistant in the School of Public, Nonprofit, and Health Administration. Congratulations Iwona!
