The mark of a good tax practitioner is the ability to analyze a tax problem, identify the tax issue(s), and through analysis and research, arrive at the appropriate course of action. Grand Valley's Master of Science in Taxation Program instills and enhances these skills through an intensive professional-practice oriented study of research procedures, legal analysis and substantive tax law.
The Seidman MST was created in response to needs expressed by accountants, attorneys, industrial personnel, government auditors, and other skilled tax professionals. These needs are highlighted by the increasingly complex nature of our tax laws.
The MST program is highly flexible and offers students an extensive selection of courses, including coverage of corporations, partnerships, estates, gifts and trusts, property transactions, employee benefit plans and deferred compensation, state and local taxation, and international taxation. The final course before graduation (Taxation Problems, Planning, and Current Issues) is designed to integrate knowledge acquired in prior courses.
The MST faculty is composed of experts who combine strong academic backgrounds with practical experience, providing students with the real essence of tax practice. The program is designed to provide students with the equivalent of three to five years of tax experience in a sophisticated tax environment.
The MST program is regularly evaluated in order to keep up with the dynamic changes in the tax profession. Relatively small classes ensure a high level of interaction among students and faculty in a stimulating classroom environment. If you are interested in becoming a tax specialist, the Master of Science in Taxation Program offers you an intensive, concentrated learning experience that will expose you to the essential aspects of taxation and permit an in-depth exploration in areas of special interest to you.
The MST is fully accredited by the prestigious AACSB - International.
