Bus Route 51 - Health Sciences / Dash to the Hill

Route Description:

The Route 51 Health Sciences shuttle provides service between the Pew Campus and the Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences (CHS) on the Michigan Hill in downtown Grand Rapids. Like all of The Rapid routes, this route is FREE to all GVSU students, faculty and staff with a valid GVSU ID. This route is also called DASH to the Hill.

Fall /Winter Semesters:
Monday - Thursday: 5:45a - 10:50p
Friday: 5:45a - 6p (see Route 50 Weekend Connector after 6p)

  • The bus runs approximately every 5-20 minutes, depending on the time of day.
  • To find out where the bus is now, visit The Rapid's mobile site or download the "Laker Mobile" smartphone application.
  • NOTE: when classes are not in session the bus may be on a limited "Break Schedule", which does not include Route 51 (DASH to the Hill services may still be offered - no nights/weekends). When the University is closed there is no GVSU bus service.

    • FALL: Labor Day Weekend, Thanksgiving Week, December Semester Break, Christmas Eve & Day, New Years Eve & Day and days prior to start of Winter Semester.
    • WINTER: Spring Break, Semeser Break prior to start of Spring Semester

"Spring / Summer Semesters" (in general, first day of class to end of exam week, with exceptions below)

  • "Break Service" (dates of Holidays/Break Service) to include:
    • SPRING: Memorial Day Weekend
    • SUMMER: Independence Day Recess, Semester Break prior to start of Fall Semester

Route Transfer Opportunities:

  • You can easily transfer to and from Route 50 Campus Connector by getting off at Lake Michigan Dr. and Seward Ave., crossing the street and catching Route 51 at the DASH 9 lot.

  Featured Stops on this Route:

  • Catch bus at Lake Michigan Dr. and Seward, across the street from the Seward Parking Ramp and take a 10 minute ride to CHS located at 301 Michigan St. NE
  • The route heads eastbound from Lake Michigan Dr. and Seward, then Seward to Bridge, to Michigan, stops at CHS, Michigan to Barclay, to Lyon, to Monroe, to Pearl, and back to Lake Michigan Dr. and Seward.
  • Stops along the way include the Seward Parking Ramp, YMCA.
  • NOTE: pull the pull-stop cord at any time and the driver will stop at the next Rapid stop.
