Effective Practice Leadership Initiative (EPLI) The Effective Practice Leadership Initiative is a systematic effort to increase the capacity of local school districts to effectively support their students with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). EPLI is designed to build capacity of public school systems by increasing the number of locally available professionals with expertise in specific content areas related to students with ASD and coaching skills necessary to support implementation of change with the building level teams. The project includes developing Trainer/Coaches who can provide professional development opportunities in ASD for local district staff and Coaches who assist in the follow-up support necessary to assure that effective supports are implemented. As such, Trainer/Coaches and Coaches provide their local districts with:
Regional Collaborative Networks (RCN) that support professionals in becoming Trainer/Coaches or Coaches identify EPLI as one of their three priorities for the year. The RCN carefully considers the appropriate number of Trainers/Coaches needed in each content area and plan a delivery system for the training and follow-up coaching in conjunction with their START staff representative. The RCN representatives recruit school-based professionals who are committed to being a Trainer/Coach in one or more of the module areas for their local district and region. A professional may become a Trainer/Coach in more than one content area if qualified or different Trainer/Coaches may be identified for each module. There must be a strong commitment by each person who applies as a Trainer/Coach because they must agree to provide a specific number of hours of training per year for two years after their START EPLI Trainer/Coach approval as well as follow and support a school-based team. Coaches agree to support a school-based team, but have no training requirements. For more information on Trainer/Coaches and Coaches click one of the links below:
