Great Lakes Coastal Wetland Monitoring Program (CWMP)
Objective
The Great Lakes Coastal Wetland Monitoring Program (CWMP) is a basin-wide monitoring program to assess the coastal wetlands surrounding the Great Lakes through establishing baseline biotic conditions of coastal wetlands using aquatic macroinvertebrates, fish, birds, frogs, aquatic macrophytes, water quality, and habitat data. The efforts of this monitoring project will provide information to aid in wetland protection and restoration to improve the health of the Great Lakes ecosystem. Funding for this project was provided by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative by the U.S. EPA via a subaward from Central Michigan University (GL-00E00612-0).
Ruetz lab Involvement
GVSU field crew samples wetlands for aquatic macroinvertebrates, fish, and water quality across Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, and Lake Erie.
