Biography
Virginia (Jinny) Jenkins teaches drawing and color and design. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Drawing from Michigan State University, and a Master of Fine Arts in Painting and Drawing from the University of Utah. She was hired in 2008 as the Department Chair for the Department of Art and Design (now the Department of Visual and Media Arts) and served in that position for nine years, returning to full-time teaching in Fall 2017 after completing eighteen consecutive years of service as a department chair. She also taught and served as department chair at two other schools, the University of Northern Colorado and the University of Minnesota Duluth. Her areas of specialty are in painting, drawing and mixed media. Her work is in several private and public collections the United States. Landscape forms and images have been the primary focus of her work for over three decades. Other areas of research and academic activity have included: history of women artists and artists of color, women studies, mythology in art, intersections between art and science, international academic collaborative studio art projects, and academic shared governance.
