Chris Fredricks is a Visiting Professor of Graphic Design and Foundations. Originally from west-Michigan, Chris studied Film, Video and Graphic Design in Baltimore, Maryland, before relocating to Grand Rapids. Chris joined the Visual & Media Arts faculty in 2017 where he teaches Print Design and Production, Brand and Identity Design, and Experience Design. Chris previously worked as the in-house Designer and Art Director for the sun care company, Sun Bum for four years. While there he assisted in managing the brand through the design of print materials, store displays, tradeshow materials, social media content and e-commerce management. While working at Sun Bum he saw first hand the impact a brand can have on people and the relationships that can be cultivated when a strong brand strategy is in place. In his current research and a majority of his client work he focuses on those lessons he learned and helps companies develop a Brand Strategy as a guide for future content creation and design work. Over the past year, he has been exploring the concept of Personal Branding, and how developing a professional Brand Strategy can help artists, designers, and entrepreneurs. Outside of his work as a teacher, Chris is in the process of launching the Brand Studio, OPEN co as a platform for his continued research and client work.
