Associate Director of Digital Content
Nate Hoekstra came to work for University Communications at GVSU in 2011 after eight years in print and broadcast journalism.
He earned his bachelor's degree in journalism from Grand Valley State University and his master's degree in public affairs reporting from the University of Illinois at Springfield.
Nate covered public safety, courts, and local governments for three years at the Grand Haven Tribune before moving to Illinois. There, he worked as a statehouse bureau reporter and blogger for the Arlington Heights (IL) Daily Herald, covering state government and politics under then-Governor Rod Blagojevich.
After moving back to West Michigan, he spent five years as a local newscast producer at WOOD-TV, the NBC affiliate in Grand Rapids.
Nate is the Associate Director of Digital Content for University Communications, where he is responsible for digital content strategy and management, media relations and writes for GVNow, Forum, and Grand Valley Magazine. He is a member of the Higher Education Web Professionals Association and the West Michigan Public Relations Society of America. He also is an adjunct journalism instructor at GVSU.
He lives in Ottawa County with his wife, Jenny, and son, Jack.
