COVID-19 Photography Operations

Please be aware that we will be unable to photograph any situation where proper social distancing and face covering protocols are not being followed. For the latest details on campus safety requirements, please visit: gvsu.edu/lakerstogether

Group photos of more than 10 people are not available and strongly discouraged for groups of less than 10.

Any photos taken that do not show proper precautions (i.e. not wearing masks while indoors, failing to wear masks properly, etc) are not usable for University Communications publications and will not be available for your use.

If you have a question about a specific photo need or situation, please do not hesitate to reach out to our team at [email protected]

In order to keep you safe, we are committed to the following sanitization procedures:

  • Washing hands regularly before and after photographic sessions. Using hand sanitizer if hand washing isn’t feasible at that time or location.
  • Frequently sanitizing all equipment as well as props, chairs, benches with which a client may come into contact.
  • Frequently sanitizing all common areas, including studio door knobs and the University Communications reception area (interior and exterior), counter tops, pens and pencils, tablets, keyboards and monitors.
  • Wearing a mask or face covering when unable to maintain a safe, social distance.

Photoshoot management

  • Portraits of one individual client may be taken indoors unmasked only if extreme social distancing is possible, and a mask should only be removed for the duration of the photoshoot.
  • Appointments are required for all photoshoots, allowing sufficient time to sanitize photographic equipment and common areas after each client session.
  • Outdoor sessions will be utilized as much as possible.
  • Only one person (and family member, if client is a minor) will be allowed in the UComm studio at any given time. If the session is held offsite, only one person (and family member, if client is a minor) can be staged in the immediate area.
  • Group photos are not allowed. An exception can be made for groups consisting of immediate family only.
  • Photographers will maintain social distancing, using no-touch posing methods.
  • Photographers will not be able to show previews of a photo on the back of the camera. They will instead tether to a computer if showing previews is necessary.
  • Release forms will still need to be obtained, but there must be an option for either pen sanitization prior to client usage, or hand sanitizer available immediately after usage.
